Goals of Initiative
Most new net job growth is generated by entrepreneurship. Supporting entrepreneurship and building resources for business success are indispensable elements of the regional economic development strategy. The EDC working with the Scheinfeld Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, serve as a hub for entrepreneurial development at Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) and throughout the Santa Barbara region. Goal of the EDC’s partnership with the Scheinfeld Center is to enhance the capabilities of both the EDC and the Scheinfeld Center, strengthening outreach and service delivery to Santa Barbara area entrepreneurs
EDC Action
The EDC participates in the work of the Scheinfeld Center for entrepreneurs by providing them with business technical assistance, connections to investment capital and networking the Center’s programs and participants to other regional assets.
Partnering Organizations
It is through the EDC’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) that it delivers service to Santa Barbara County. With the Scheinfeld Center, it also connects its participants and the EDC to SBCC’s Center for International Trade Development. Working together in economic development, the Center, SBCC, EDC and the SBDC collaborate to deliver quality programs and partnerships to efficiently support entrepreneurs.
The Center trains entrepreneurs using a comprehensive approach that combines academics, hands-on experience and support. Focusing on building businesses and the skill sets of entrepreneurs, the Scheinfeld Center offers a distinctive combination of coursework, business plan and pitch competitions, internships, no-cost business consulting, mentoring, networking and post-start-up support.
